Editorial Policy – The Defense Room

Our core mission at The Defense Room is to publish high-quality and trustworthy expert opinions and analyses across the comprehensive spectrum of global defense, security, and foreign policy, covering developments from land to space and the cyber domain. Our publications cater to a well-informed readership that closely follows developments in this critical field.

The Essence of Content: Expertise and Depth

The backbone of our publication rests on content built upon proven expertise and direct experience. It is essential that our contributors possess deep knowledge or practical experience in the area they address. Our goal is to avoid articles that merely reiterate general knowledge or remain superficial. Therefore, submissions are expected to be current, relevant, and thought-provoking.

Every submission must present a compelling narrative structured around a clear argument that encourages the reader to contemplate new perspectives. To maintain clarity and accessibility, the excessive use of specialized jargon and acronyms (unless fully explained) must be avoided. Research-based commentaries and book reviews are welcome.

High Standards of Accuracy and Transparency

In critical fields like defense and security, accuracy and trustworthiness must be maintained at the highest standards. This is a fundamental requirement for the confidence of both our readers and search engines in our content.

Originality and Exclusivity: All articles must be original, previously unpublished, and exclusive to The Defense Room. Content that has appeared on other platforms will not be considered.

Source Citation: All statements of fact must be supported by a direct link to the source (inline link). For quick verification and transparency, footnotes should not be used; instead, citations should be embedded directly within the text. Commercial links to books (Amazon or Google Books) are acceptable.

Objective Perspective: Overtly partisan articles will only be considered if they are presented alongside a balanced or alternative viewpoint.

Submission Process and Author Profile

The ideal op-ed length is between 500 and 1,000 words, though more extensive analyses that provide substantial insight may be considered. We prefer receiving a short pitch before the full submission. Authors whose articles are selected for publication will be contacted within five business days.

To emphasize the authority of our writers, please include all relevant information detailing your area of expertise and experience during the submission process. Once an article is accepted, a head-and-shoulders photo will be requested to accompany your author profile.

Accepted articles may be edited for clarity, length, and style, while always preserving the author’s original meaning. Major edits will be confirmed with the contributor prior to publication whenever possible.

Independence and Ethical Responsibility

Maintaining the independence and ethical integrity of our publication is paramount. For this reason, submissions driven by commercial motives or linked to lobbying interests will absolutely not be considered. Our aim is to foster a platform for high-value, intellectual ideas and alternative viewpoints, entirely separated from commercial agendas. Sponsored content and partnerships are managed through a separate process.

Published op-eds may also appear in The Defense Room’s newsletters and printed materials to maximize the author’s reach and the content’s impact.
